Toothpaste tubes are typically made from a combination of polyethylene (HDPE) and aluminium. An average toothpaste tube is 30 grams, which globally is around 600,0000 metric tons of plastic not suitable for recycling.

Toothpaste tubes do not biodegrade. They can take hundreds of years to break down into smaller pieces called microplastics, small enough to be ingested by animals and can pose a significant threat to marine life and the environment.

Water content in regular toothpaste can vary depending on the brand but generally contains a significant amount of water, from 20% to 40% by weight. We avoid water in all our formulations.

The complex plastic layers that make up toothpaste tubes are almost impossible to biodegrade. It's estimated to take 500 years or more for a tube to fully biodegrade
